This couldn’t have been rigged could it?

On a lighter note I was doing some research on Google this morning and a collegue told me to type the words ‘what are’ into the search box and look at the second suggested term that Googles query function provided. I have included a screen shot again pay special attention to the second suggested search term. Now I would really like to know how that came second in all the searches beginning with the words ‘What are’.

If anyone has any rational idea how this has happened leave us a comment below.

HAHA! That was on Digg a few months ago, I assumed it had been edited out by Mountain View after it caught on though, guess not.

I think it was almost like a Google bomb where it got so much attention & clicks that it just reinforced its position as a top suggestion, but I have no clue how it got there in the first place :)

“what are these strawberries doing on my nipples i need them for the fruit salad” is the title of a book by Vanessa Feltz.

If one googles the entire phrase, today, there are 62,200 mentions. Amazon is on top, in the No. 1 & No. 2 placements on Google’s search engine results pages (SERPs).

Understanding the relationship Amazon has with A9 and the service that A9 provides sheds some light upon the favorable placement. While the service is certainly not the sole factor (Amazon would do reasonable well regardless), it does provide a boost. That boost may in many instances be the one factor that provides sufficient differentiation between Amazon’s vs. any competing mention for a specific long tail phrase to propel Amazon’s listing to the top.
